DPD – a sustainable service provider.

DPD takes its responsibilities towards sustainable development very seriously. As a company in the transport and logistics industry DPD is acutely aware of its obligations both to the environment and to the economic and social needs of its workforce and society as a whole.

For this reason the company has drawn up a Sustainable Development Charter, which integrates sustainable development as a major component of DPD's corporate culture, in line with GeoPost’s sustainable development commitment, its majority shareholder.

In the field of environmental protection DPD focuses above all on the reduction of CO2 emissions. At present DPD's high-performance transport network already guarantees relatively low CO2 emission values, because within Europe DPD transports well over 90 % of all shipments by truck – as opposed to airfreight, which causes levels of CO2 emissions which are up to eight times higher than road transport. The website www.whyflyparcels.com provides extensive information about the modeshift™, in other words the transfer of shipping operations from the air to the road. In this way DPD enables all parcel service users to make an informed choice.

Thanks to optimisation within the road network by activities such as improved routing and capacity utilisation DPD is steadily raising efficiency levels even further in order to reduce CO2 emissions as much as possible. However the company is also active in areas such as waste avoidance and recycling, implementing measures aimed at minimising the impact on the environment.

In 2008 the GeoPost Group, majority shareholder in DPD Dynamic Parcel Distribution GmbH & Co. KG, carried out a carbon footprint analysis at all its European subsidiaries. This overall picture of CO2 emissions forms the basis for further measures to limit the amount of greenhouse gas emitted per parcel within all the Group’s subsidiaries. GeoPost's parent company, France's Groupe La Poste, is committed to making the concept of sustainable development the driving force behind its own development. Its progress along this route will be documented by an annual sustainability report.

It is also part of sustainable development at DPD to accept its responsibilities as an employer by promoting the health and safety of its employees. In addition the company highlights the diversity and internationality of its workforce – who work together from all corners of the world to form an effective and dedicated team in the service of the customer.
